The Coventry-based Camping and Caravanning Club, which has 370,000 members in the UK, is moving its headquarters to a four-acre site on Westwood Business Park. Work on the £4.5million office is due to be finished next month with the club expected to move from its current HQ at Greenfields House, Westwood Way, to the new building in May. The Camping and Caravanning Club, which was founded in 1901, was given a helping hand by Lloyds TSB Corporate, which arranged a £6million loan, enabling it to relocate. The club, whose patron is the Duke of Edinburgh, has an annual turnover of £23million and employs around 450 staff, including site managers and assistants who work at the 92 camp sites throughout the UK. Club director general David Welsford said: "The acquisition of new headquarters represents a period of organic growth for the club and is the latest in a catalogue of successful ventures that the bank has supported us with, for which we are extremely grateful." Nigel Swanston, senior relationship manager, Lloyds TSB Corporate, said he was glad that the bank was able to play a key role in providing the funding for the club's new HQ. He said: "Through our strong relation-ship with the organisation we were able to devise a flexible funding package of overdraft and loan facilities tailored to the Club's specific financial requirements." |
Caravanning and the wind don't mix
Away at the weekend and got caught like so many others in some really nasty weather.
Caravans as you may all have realised don't fair well in the wind but once you are away from home there isn't a lot you can do but keep your speed down and hold on tight.
As with anyone out on the roads it isn't just the caravans being caught by gusts that worry you, it's the debris that lands on the roads that is just as dangerous.
And when you get to the campsite you think your problems are over, but oh no. Doors fly open threatening to rip themselves from the hinges, roof lights pop up at unexpected times and yes the debris that plagued you on the roads, follows you, and ends up "in" the caravan everytime you open the door.
Put all that aside though, when you finally settle down, with friends, the kids are off playing and the beers are opened you soon forget about it all and chill............................until someone opens the door!!

NEC Boat and Caravan show a huge success
The 43rd National Boat Caravan & Outdoor Show, held at the NEC Birmingham 14-22 February 2004, has broken the show’s box office record welcoming 135,012 visitors* producing record sales for caravan and motorhome exhibitors.
Anthony Trevelyan, Auto Sleepers, said: “Well done Inside Communications. A really excellent show with record sales – our best ever at this exhibition. Encouragingly, the show is attracting an ever increasing number of first time buyers, which is important for both the growth of the motorhome industry and the show. Indeed, we are so pleased with the results that we will be back next year and have already booked our stand.”
Stuart Turpin, Autotrail, added: “The show has exceeded our wildest dreams. We will have sold £7 miliion worth of vehicles by the end of the event.”
Pop ups to go, but you won't like the alternative
As a lot of people have said in the past pop ups are hated the world over and with MSN pushing now to do away with them (a previous pop up sender) it looks like they may finally go.
However, you aint getting away with it that lightly and I have heard the new advertising craze will be like the adverts you get on telly.
A full size window will insert itself as you move from site to site, initially these will be quickly seen then gone but I suspect they could develop and how many will insert themselves as you launch a new window, surf to another site etc?
Time will tell.
remember where you heard it first
