France has over eleven thousand campsites. These range from rural farm sites (terrains a la ferme) to large holiday villages and from the exceptional to the poor. The Ranton-Vienne Publications Campsites of France series of guides have been compiled to simplify the vast amount of information available from numerous sources. During 2004 and 2005, a considerable amount of research was carried out by us and by our agents working in France. This is ensure that the information we provide for the readers of our French guides equals that which visitors to touringandtenting.com have come to rely on for over three years.
The market research has given us the criteria as to the information required. With the combined experiences of the editor and the owners of touringandtenting.com in France over many years, we can say that our guide really does enable both the first timer and the accomplished touring holiday maker to select a site or sites with some confidence. We initially chose not to include site reports as an accurate site description for one person may not be so for another. However, our research told us that site reports were required as long as they provide factual information and not opinions. This then provides an element of exploration, which we believe, is an important part of a touring holiday.
Information is laid out in concise, user-friendly tables so constant reference to the chapter on using this book is kept to a minimum. However, the outer cover provides a guide to symbols and has been cleverly designed as a bookmarker.
All guides contain practical information covering the day-to-day aspects of holidays abroad which is aimed at both the experienced and novice traveller.
A language section has been written with basic words and phrases that will enable you to settle in to a French way of life during your stay.
In order to distinguish the good sites from the not so good, we use a star rating system and Quality Charter label. The chapter on planning your trip explains how this operates and also covers essential documents and equipment needed.
The directory is divided into the regional departments (counties) with each one having towns listed in alphabetical order. The end of the book contains all sites in town alphabetical order to enable users to find a site in a town quickly if one is needed.
