The Camping and Caravanning Club's - and arguably the UK's - first carbon-
neutral camp site, Delamere Forest, has now opened its doors to campers,
caravanners and motorhome users.
The new Club Site at Delamere Forest, near Chester, has many environmentally
friendly features to compliment the beauty of the forest around it. Over 4,000
native trees and hedging plants have been introduced to offset the work done to
create this new Site.
Delamere Forest Camping and Caravanning Club Site is part of the Ashton Hayes
village project to create England's first carbon neutral village. Find out more
about this project at www.goingcarbonneutral.co.uk
The 'green' credentials of the site are strong and include rain-water harvesting
and wood burning stoves. Solar panels for secondary heating are all part of a
process which will see the site becoming even greener over time. Locally sourced
materials have been used where possible, helping the site blend into its forest
surroundings. The planting of native trees and shrubs make it a haven for
wildlife and visitors alike. For tent campers it's easy to leave the car at home
as there's a train station next door.
The camp site is working closely with the Forestry Commission, which manages the
forest around the Site. Linmere Visitor Centre is short walk from the Site, and
gives information on the many marked footpaths and cycle trails around the
Forest. Delamere Forest Park is well known for its numerous meres and mosses,
the largest of which is Blakemere. There are several Sites of Special Scientific
Interest, with one area under consideration to become a Special Area of
Conservation - a strictly protected site under the EC Habitats Directive.
Camping and Caravanning Club Sites Chairman Mel Hill says: "The Club is very
proud to be opening its first carbon-neutral camp site. This, the greenest site
in the Club's current portfolio, will include more environmentally-friendly
features as it develops. It's certainly a site to visit several times over the
next few years to see how things progress."

The Caravan Channel TV Show hits its stride . . and plans more expansion!
The Caravan Channel is a half-hour programme broadcast Sky Channel 181 by broadcaster Information TV at 6pm on Monday, Wednesdays and Fridays, and at 12.30pm on Sundays. After a concept-testing 4-programme run before Christmas, new programmes are transmitted at two-week intervals, each one showing eight times over the two weeks to maximise the audience.
Whole programmes is planned and put together by one individual, Chris Gosling, who writes, tapes and edits the complete show - with the help of presenter Ruth Dugdall, who looks after each show's news presentation. With Gosling's background in marketing and news journalism, programmes have a strong news and information emphasis.
The caravanning industry has taken time to get used to the idea of a continuously-produced programme, but it is now climbing aboard rapidly. "At the same show last year, I couldn't get anyone to talk to me. This year, planning a three day shoot was incredibly difficult - and I still couldn't fit everyone in!" Gosling says that during this year, he plans to move to a weekly production routine, and to introduce more special features and one-off programmes. "This will mean finding new talent and production crew, and I'm really looking forward to our next step in development," he says.
Gosling's background of innovation includes the amdram website (started in 1996, passed to a new editor in 1999) which is the UK's premier amateur theatre site, and Felixstowe TV, the UK's first serious "hyperlocal" broadband TV station, started in 2004 and passed over to new operators late last year. Felixstowe TV was reported on by BBC NewsWatch; BBC News 24; Canal+ (France); ARD (Germany), and media-savvy UK publications and broadcasters, including BBC local and national radio.

Touring and Tenting is 4 today and we would like to thank you all for your continued support.
Its a strange feeling going into our 5th year, so much has gone on, a lot of water under the bridge and all that.
We are committed to the website and the rallies and look forward to making them the best we can for everyone to enjoy, use and participate in.
We get asked one question time and time again and that is "Why do we do it?" I can only say that we do it because we enjoy it, that isn't to say that from time to time we don't get miffed off because we do but it always seems that on reflection the positives always outweigh the negatives by a long way. Who can not be pleased when they see kids coming to our rallies that were babies when we started and who are now off doing there own thing!
Today also marks a day that in some ways I would rather forget. It was this day last year that the site got hacked and we were offline for several days as we moved the site to our new home in the UK, the plus side of that was the loyalty shown by our members who put up with it while it was happening and this is another reason why we do it.
We have a lot of things booked and planned for this year and we are looking forward to seeing them come to fruition and as always we welcome any ideas or suggestions you have. We also want you to participate and please always let us know if you have an idea you want to put forward or you want to become more involved in anyway.
That's enough from me, many many thanks for your support and use of Touring and Tenting.
Caravan, motorhome, tent reviews
I have been knocking this about for sometime now, but the recent 2007 purchases thread made me finish it.
It is a review/listing system for caravans, motorhomes and tents/trailer tents.
You can add your current or previous outfits, even if they are listed already you can still add your own.
You can add a review and rate outfits you have listed or others have listed.
There are basically 2 parts, basic information like make and model and technical like M.T.P.L.M, M.R.O etc.
There is also a couple questions for water ingress, manufacturer satifaction etc.
Each category has different questions eg if you have a motorhome it asks for engine type.
Current categories are
Tents and trailers
Trailer tents
Folding campers
Tents
Tourers
Single Axle
Twin axle
Folding
Motorhomes
Fixed-roof campers
Elevating-roof campers
High-top campers
coachbuilt
Over-cab coachbuilt
A-class
5th Wheel (demountable)
American RV
Caravan, motorhome, tent reviews
Its early days yet so there will be some glitches please let me know
If you want to add your outfit please try to add as much info as possible, also be sure to pick the right category eg twin axle etc
You can find it www.touringandtentingonline.com/caravan/
ps I haven't finished the review area off yet so ignore the tiny text box, it will change
